Make It a Season of Gratitude

A New Tradition for Your Turkey Day Celebration

 

What will your family do after Thanksgiving’s big meal, before the pie? Our guess is there might be some pro football on TV, some touch football outside (weather permitting), or other family fun together.

Here’s something you can add to the mix, a meaningful activity that has become a tradition for the Andrew family: encouraging everyone to go a little deeper in reflecting on their gratitude.

While it might feel a little formal the first time you introduce the tradition, here’s what the experience brings about:

• A chance to spread positivity, with each individual “amplifying their gratitude”
• A way to instill in the rising generation an abundance mindset

 

EXPRESSING GRATITUDE

 

During our time together, we take time to fill out one of the 3 Dimensional Wealth tools: The Gratitude Amplifier.

For this activity, we’ll usually start by talking for a few minutes about what an attitude of gratitude means. We often point out that the word “appreciation” has three definitions:

• To be grateful for someone, somebody’s actions, or something meaningful in our lives
• To increase in value, such as when real estate value goes up
• To fully understand, as in when a friend offers empathy, saying “I can appreciate what you’re going through.”

We use the Gratitude Amplifier tool to bring these three meanings together. It helps us expand our appreciation for the person or thing we’re talking about — and takes us further, identifying how we’ll express that gratitude and/or pay it forward.

We can attest, it’s truly an enriching experience to hear each family member express gratitude. You not only get a window into their lives, but it brings you all closer to hear from each other’s hearts.
